Common Illnesses | Covid-19
COVID Overview & Facts
The novel Coronavirus (Covid or COVID-19) is a SARS virus that affects the upper respiratory system. This illness is extremely contagious and may require hospitalization.
COVID Symptoms & Types
COVID may be identified by these common symptoms:
- Difficulty breathing
- Body aches and chills
Sick children should be kept home and quarantined until their illness subsides.
COVID is caused by the Coronavirus pathogen, which is a viral agent spread via similar methods as colds and flu.
COVID Treatment & Care
Treat your child for COVID in the way you might treat the flu or a cold. Should symptoms worsen, call your pediatrician for medical advice or assistance.
Like any other illness, COVID can be prevented by practicing good hygiene.
- Refrain from touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unclean hands.
- Ensure that your child’s immune system is operating normally.
- Sanitize objects that could pick up or transmit pathogens, including cell phones, surfaces, and food prep areas.
If you have concerns over your child’s symptoms after your regular pediatrician’s office is closed for the day, or on the weekend, we invite you to visit our Midlothian AfterHours location. There is no appointment needed and we accept most major insurance plans. Covid tests are available for children and their families with no appointment needed.
