About Us

Dr. John Zachary founded James River Pediatrics in 1986 and continues to provide our community with personalized, exceptional pediatric care.

With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Zachary has been a beloved and trusted figure in the pediatric community. From welcoming newborns in the hospital to now caring for the children of those very same babies, he represents the heart of our practice — a true example of generational care and dedication. Families don’t just visit our office — they return, year after year, because they know they’re part of something more personal.

In October of 2022, Dr. Christine Jones joined our James River Pediatric family. With years of experience in the fast-paced environment of the Chippenham Pediatric Emergency Room, she has brought a calm, skilled, and reassuring presence to every patient and family encounter. Her background allows her to approach pediatric care with both urgency and empathy, making her a vital asset to our growing practice.

Our Services

Besides well child checks, sports physicals, and sick visits, we offer several services that you might not think about during a typical pediatric visit. These include:

Molecular testing for Strep, COVID, Flu, and RSV for more accurate and faster results without waiting days for lab confirmation
Bloodwork and lab draws onsite
Behavioral Health Counselor sessions in our office every Thursday
ADHD, Anxiety, Depression medication management
Pre-Operative screenings
International travel/vaccination consults
College consults
Prenatal visits for expecting parents

Behavioral Health

Using a collaborative team approach, you and your child will work closely with Dr. Zachary or Dr. Jones and our behavioral specialists to create an integrated, personal care plan to provide mental health support in an environment you are already familiar with– our office!
Ashley is available for virtual visits on Monday, Thursday, and Fridays.
Erica is available for in-person visits on Thursdays.

John Zachary
MD, FAAP

With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Zachary has been a trusted and familiar face in the community — proudly caring for generations of families. As the founder of James River Pediatrics, he’s known for his warm, compassionate approach and unwavering dedication to children’s health. He has committed his life to providing personalized, high-quality pediatric care, always putting children and families first.

Dr. Zachary earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame and went on to receive his medical degree from Loyola University in Chicago. A proud father of four and loving “Poppo” to ten amazing grandchildren, when he’s not in the office, you’ll likely spot him in the stands or on the sidelines, cheering on his family and patients alike at local games, performances, and school events. His presence and support extend far beyond the exam room — a true reflection of his heart for the community he serves.

Christine Jones
MD, FAAP

Dr. Christine Jones was born in the heart of Manhattan, New York and raised in the suburbs of Bergen County, New Jersey. She is a proud graduate of The College of William and Mary and earned her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. She completed her pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, VA.

After five exciting years working in the fast-paced pediatric emergency room at Chippenham Hospital, Dr. Jones transitioned her knowledge and love for pediatrics to the outpatient setting. She joined James River Pediatrics in October 2022 and couldn’t be happier to be part of a team that shares her passion for family-focused care.

Outside the office, Dr. Jones is always on the go! She enjoys skiing, running, hiking, and cooking up new recipes inspired by her culinary hero, Ina Garten. She lives in Midlothian with her wonderful husband, two amazing boys, and two spirited rescue dogs who keep the household full of energy and fun.

Jenna
Registered Nurse,
Office Manager

Jenna joined the JRP family in May 2017, beginning her journey at the front desk and steadily advancing to her current role as Office Manager. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatrical Lighting Design and Italian from JMU, but it was her time at JRP that inspired a deep passion for healthcare. Now a Trauma-Certified Registered Nurse, Jenna also dedicates time to working in the Emergency Room, bringing critical care experience to her leadership at the practice. Outside the office, she enjoys quality time with her husband, son, and their rescue border collie mix. She is an avid New York Mets fan, a lover of photography, beach days, random trivia, and all things 90s.

Robin
Front Desk Coordinator

Robin joined the JRP family in Dec 2021. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Physical Education and Health Science. A former surfer girl from California, she has lived in 10 states, enjoying both the beaches and mountains equally. She is happiest when she gets to spend time with her three handsome sons and three adorable grandchildren. She loves the patients at JRP and their wonderful families and is incredibly blessed to work with such amazing doctors and staff.

K’Maya
Certified Medical Assistant

K’Maya joined the JRP family in September 2023 and found her calling in pediatrics from day one. In her free time, she enjoys shopping, listening to music, attending concerts, and relaxing at the beach. Whether she’s dancing along to her favorite songs or soaking up the sun by the ocean, she finds joy in life’s simple pleasures. Her upbeat energy and love for helping others make her a valued part of the James River Pediatrics team.

Hayley
Certified Clinical
Medical Assistant

Hayley joined the JRP family in August 2022 and is passionate about creating a welcoming and supportive experience for children and their families. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and holds certifications as a CCMA, QMHP, and CPT. She will be returning to VCU in Fall 2026 to continue her education, with long-term goals of becoming a psychiatrist and orthopedic surgeon.

When she is not caring for patients, Hayley also serves as a mental health professional within the community. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, playing golf and pickleball, spending time with her fiancé, and making memories with their two dogs, Blue the German Shepherd and Gregory the Golden Retriever. She also loves relaxing at her fiancé’s family lake house whenever she gets the chance.

Alyssa
Registered Nurse

Alyssa joined the James River Pediatrics family in May 2026 as an RN, after being a patient at the practice herself. Sparking her passion for pediatrics at a young age, she graduated from Brightpoint Community College with her Associate Degree in Nursing and Health Sciences. She enjoys building lifelong connections with patients and their families and helping to make their visits feel safe, comfortable, and even a little fun. Outside of work, Alyssa enjoys spending time with friends and family, coaching gymnastics, going to her family’s beach house, and doing anything that involves Disney. Her positive and friendly spirit makes her an amazing addition to the JRP family.

Bridget
Patient Care Technician

Bridget joined the James River Pediatrics family in May 2026. She recently graduated from James River High School as a part of the Center for Leadership and International Relations and intends to pursue a degree in Biology at the College of William & Mary on a Pre-Med track. Passionate about pediatrics, she loves getting to meet new families every time she goes to work! In her free time, she enjoys reading, drawing, playing the flute and piccolo, and rooting for the Buffalo Bills!

Erica is passionate about helping others and giving back to her community. She has years of experience working with children and adolescents, specifically related to counseling and mental health.

Erica is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, where she obtained her Master of Social Work. She has a certificate in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Erica is looking forward to working with you and your family on identifying and reaching your treatment goals. She can see patients ages 8 and older.

Michelle Jefferson
Patient Service Representative

I recently started at WEP in September 2025. I have a strong background working in healthcare. I have worked in OB-GYN and also Primary Care,
but I have a strong passion for helping children, which is what inspired me to work in Pediatrics. Being able to interact with the children and ensure the parents feel at ease while bringing their children in for appointments is very important. Outside of work, I am a mom of five lovely children, so I love to go out and do fun activities with them! I also LOVE shopping, which is my favorite hobby!
